The beauty lies not only in what things are made of, but how they are shaped by irreplaceable process, time, and knowledge of the human hand. This exact value is presented through the collaboration between The Balvenie, a Scottish distiller founded by William Grant, and multidisciplinary artist Lianggono of Studio Lianggono in The Makers Project: Wang Sinawang.
As part of Jia CURATED 2025, The Balvenie introduced The Makers Project to Bali, in collaboration with Indonesian multidisciplinary artist Lianggono of Studio Lianggono.
The special presentation features Wang Sinawang, a concept where guests can experience a sensory exploration of craft, culture, and connection at the Bali Festival Park.
Wang Sinawang itself is a Javanese term that invites us to wait, to see, to sense, and to wonder. It aligns with the spirit of The Balvenie, which continues to honour its traditional Five Rare Craft in whisky making.
“We are constantly seeking to partner with individuals who share our passion for creating the extraordinary. Our collaboration with Lianggono from Studio Lianggono perfectly exemplifies this, as his work’s ideals align seamlessly with ours. For this year’s Makers Project, we are proud to offer consumers the chance to embark on a unique journey and get first-hand experience of the distillery behind this remarkable liquid crafted with heart,” said Jyri Pylkkänen, Regional Malts Brand Ambassador of Southeast Asia (SEA).
From 14 to 18 August 2025, the experience welcomed visitors into a meditative space shaped by natural textures, layered soundscapes, and visual storytelling to reflect the patience and precision behind The Balvenie’s whisky-making traditions.
The Balvenie is dedicated to the Five Rare Crafts that are used to create its distinctive taste. It is the only distillery that still grows its barley, uses traditional floor maltings, and keeps both coppersmiths and coopers on site.
