When fashion meets cultural preservation, every piece becomes a vessel of deeper stories and meanings. Savira Lavinia founded FUGUKU in 2023 to showcase how traditional craftsmanship can intertwine with modern innovation while also prioritizing responsible business practices.
She was first inspired by the Japanese Bai Shibori technique—a complex
fabric-dyeing method. She then discovered a similar local technique called ‘jumputan’, which not only creates a beautiful pattern and unique pointy texture but also provides a simplified way of dyeing. This makes the method accessible to local artisans in the community, and as a result, FUGUKU has empowered more than 70 female artisans in Jakarta and its surrounding urban villages, including Tangerang, Condet, and Pasar Minggu.
“We want to prove that beauty and responsibility can coexist,” as emphasized by Savira Lavinia, FUGUKU continues to stitch together heritage and innovation, one conscious spiky bag at a time. Find out more about their latest collection on @fuguku.id
