FUGUKU: A Spiky Statement in Fashion

Fuguku fashion

Beyond the grandeur of FUGUKU design, lies a passion for innovation and empowerment. Its unique shape, similar to that of a puffer fish, is created using the ‘jumputan’ traditional technique, which involves cultural wisdom passed down from women in Indonesia. Evolving into a fashion brand in 2023, FUGUKU is ready to provoke the fast-moving market with its sustainable, innovative statement pieces.

When fashion meets cultural preservation, every piece becomes a vessel of deeper stories and meanings. Savira Lavinia founded FUGUKU in 2023 to showcase how traditional craftsmanship can intertwine with modern innovation while also prioritizing responsible business practices.

She was first inspired by the Japanese Bai Shibori technique—a complex
fabric-dyeing method. She then discovered a similar local technique called ‘jumputan’, which not only creates a beautiful pattern and unique pointy texture but also provides a simplified way of dyeing. This makes the method accessible to local artisans in the community, and as a result, FUGUKU has empowered more than 70 female artisans in Jakarta and its surrounding urban villages, including Tangerang, Condet, and Pasar Minggu.

“We want to prove that beauty and responsibility can coexist,” as emphasized by Savira Lavinia, FUGUKU continues to stitch together heritage and innovation, one conscious spiky bag at a time. Find out more about their latest collection on @fuguku.id
