One of the most beautiful mountains in Indonesia, Rinjani promises a romantic view of natural lakes and breathtaking scenery. To experience its beauty, however, you must overcome a challenging journey that pushes your physique to the limit.
Standing at 3,726 m above sea level, Rinjani is the second-highest volcano in Indonesia and one of the most beautiful. Hikers dare to trek the changing landscape for days to witness the remarkable 50 km2 caldera and the Carter Lake Segara Anak. The best time to trek Rinjani is during the dry season, from April to November, when the weather is more predictable and the views are clearer.
It takes about three days to complete the journey. Depending on the difficulty of the treks, you may explore a steep savanna for hours, climb rocks, or step into a slippery rainforest. As the evening comes, you will need to set up a camp and enjoy a rest under a starry night sky.
But the journey should not just be about you. Just around the trek, don’t miss the chance to visit Senaru Traditional Village, where The Sasak inhabitants will warmly welcome you. Ask for a local guide to show you around the forest and Sidang Gila waterfalls.
The trekking difficulty levels range from moderate to challenging, so it’s important to assess your fitness level before choosing a trek. To get to Rinjani, you will need first to fly to Lombok. From the airport, drive to Senaru village or Sembalun village, which is the starting point of your journey. Both villages offer proper accommodations and numerous adventure options at different difficulty levels.
