August Jakarta’s ‘Breakfast from Mom’, A Childhood Memory

August Jakarta The Public Book

Childhood memories, whether we realize it or not, are still deeply connected to our lives. Within them, resides nostalgia, a recollection of our roots, and our identity, which stay with us to the present.

In truth, we are never separate from our true origins. Despite that however, we have the capability to change and constantly redefine ourselves, resulting in the version of us we currently see. And this journey is best represented in a particular dish in August Restaurant Jakarta.

Made by the brilliance of Chef Hans Christian and Budi Cahyadi, August Restaurant Jakarta has a menu that is greatly inspired from Chef Hans’ experience in childhood. ‘Breakfast from Mom’ is a snack dish he crafted based on the meal his mother used to prepare for him. Made of lap cheong (Chinese sausage), eggs, and crispy rice, uniquely stacked on top of each other, this dish is still heavily imbued with his past. Only, it is reinterpreted, reinvented into something modern that is seemingly distinct from its history. This way, it transforms something from the past into something current. From nostalgia, into modernity.

However, this dish doesn’t only have a unique story, it has also gained lots of customer favor. Many have described it as a bite-sized perfection, with the combination of lightly smoked lap cheong, rice, and omelets being an ideal pair. Dishes like this are included in the restaurant’s gourmet sessions, each of which hold different dishes for every season.

In the Chef’s Journey session, you can enjoy several dishes made from uniquely sourced ingredients and inspired from Chef Hans’ experiences. This particular session lasts for 120 minutes. Then, there is also a Tasting Menu session, which includes dishes that can be enjoyed for 90 minutes. Aside from that, they also have an a la carte menu.

As said by Hans, every one of his dishes tells a story, and you may savor them inside August Restaurant’s elegant interior, which is welcoming to any customers. Currently, August Restaurant is serving its season 7 menu, featuring unique dishes such as Tempe, Oncom XO, Glazed Mantau, Hash Brown ‘Rendang’, and many more to pique your interest. Therefore, pay August Restaurant Jakarta a visit at Sequis Tower, SCBD for the full experience.
