This year, Mamma Mia! returns to Jakarta\u2014bigger, bolder, and more heartfelt than ever. At the heart of the story Donna Sheridan, brought to life by two extraordinary talents \u2014 Ashley Aisyah Hamel and Mirabeth Sonia.<\/b><\/h4>\n

Mamma mia! Jakarta 2025<\/p><\/div>\n

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

M: I first became known through Indonesian Idol Season X, where I made it to the Top 6. I started my career as a solo singer, but for the past two years, I\u2019ve also been performing as part of a trio. Back in university, I studied performing arts\u2014so I\u2019ve always been familiar with musical theatre.<\/p>\n

A: I\u2019m an Indonesian-American singer, songwriter, and musical theatre actor. Kadang-kadang saya guru juga, guru whenever they need. Kinda a performing artist, I like to call myself. So, that\u2019s what I mostly do these days.<\/p>\n

What makes you interested in the theater?<\/p>\n

M: I fell in love with theatre back in high school, when I created my first operette. That experience inspired me to pursue a degree in performing arts, and from there, my passion only grew\u2014not just for musical theatre, but for performance in all its forms. To me, theatre is where life gets transformed into something magical. It\u2019s where everyday emotions are celebrated, magnified, and shared. There\u2019s something deeply satisfying about watching an audience connect to a story\u2014to see them feel what you\u2019re feeling on stage. That connection is what makes it all worth it.<\/p>\n

A: For me, the most fulfilling part is the opportunity to tell a story\u2014together\u2014with so many incredible people. Musical theatre, especially, is both intensely challenging and deeply rewarding. It demands everything from you: acting, singing, and dancing\u2014all at once. It feels like being both an artist and an athlete. You need stamina, precision, and heart. It\u2019s like a sport\u2014but for the soul.<\/p>\n

Tell us your journey in the Mamamia Show?<\/p>\n

M: I officially joined Jakarta Art House in 2025, but I\u2019ve actually known the founder and co-founder since university\u2014we went to the same campus, just in different years. We weren\u2019t close back then, just acquaintances. This year, they reached out and invited me to be part of Mamma Mia! The Musical. I decided to audition and surprise, I landed the role of Donna. It feels like coming home.<\/p>\n

A: I had been part of the musical theatre world for eleven years before Mamma Mia!\u2014though it had been quite some time since my last production. In 2023, I came across the audition and decided to give it a try. Unexpectedly, I was cast as Donna. And now\u2014here we go again\u2014I’m honored to return to the role this year.<\/p>\n

What do you think is your favorite part?<\/p>\n

M: My favorite part of the show was definitely the whole process\u2014there were so many great moments. I especially loved the songs, and one of my favorites was ‘Chiquitita.’ The music, the moments\u2014it was all so much fun!<\/p>\n

A: My favorite part of the show is the song Slipping Through My Fingers. It\u2019s such a tender, emotional moment\u2014and it always hits me personally. The emotional depth, the precision\u2014it all has to come together.<\/p>\n

Which part is the most challenging? And how do you go through that?<\/p>\n

M: The most challenging part? Honestly\u2014everything. Especially the emotional side of it. You have to stay in control while acting, singing, and dancing all at once. It\u2019s a constant balancing act\u2014mentally, emotionally, and physically.<\/p>\n

A: In musical theatre, you don\u2019t just sing or act, you have to do it all, simultaneously. And in the theatre, there\u2019s no place to hide. You bring your whole body, your whole voice, your whole self to the stage. It\u2019s raw, it\u2019s real\u2014and that\u2019s what makes it so powerful.<\/p>\n
