Two Solo Exhibitions, Unite the Dissimilar Aspect<\/b><\/p>\n
From 18 May to 23 June 2024, ROH Projects currently showcases two solo exhibitions: Ziggurat by Agus Suwage<\/b> and Sadar by Nadya Jiwa<\/b>. By arranging the artworks of two artists with different perspectives to convey their interpretations of human emotion and existence, art appreciators will attain a distinctive experience.<\/p>\n
By uniting the dissimilar aspects of artworks, ROH Projects presents the two solo exhibitions of Ziggurat (Agus Suwage) and Sadar (Nadya Jiwa). This exhibition is a momentous opportunity for art appreciators to relish different artistic perspectives and gain a diverse understanding of the artists’ works.<\/p>\n
Nadya Jiwa, in particular, stimulates her emotions and sensibility of her identity as an assertive and everyday narratives room in creating Sadar. <\/b>Her recent artworks are inspired by pop culture references to steer her visual art clues: childhood storybooks, songs, films, and well-known TV series that she had consumed. Meanwhile, her other pieces explore local narratives steeped in myths and ancestral tales, like Cipamali and Dayang Sumbi. In the quest to find the meaning of myths and local legends, Nadya Jiwa observes how the spirituality of communities intensely relies on their belief in mythology.<\/p>\n
Agus Suwage creates Ziggurat<\/b> to channel his contemplation of human existence through his works. He views gold as a fascination, the symbol of majesty, or as an ornament to highlight specific elements. The artist also views gold as “fire, or a wound,” encouraging viewers to see the dripping gold pigment as blood. Initially used in sculptures to symbolize arrogance and pride, the works on paper, incorporating tobacco essence and gold leaf, explore gold’s meaning differently.<\/p>\n
